Illini Creative Impact
Formerly the Illini Art & Business Collective
A student organization I founded to close a gap at UIUC: art students had few ways to build business and professional skills, or to get their work in front of an audience. We run competitions, exhibitions and programs that do both.
- Role
- Founder & President

- March 2025 – present
01/Overview
I started the organization from nothing in March 2025: the idea, the name, the first members, the website. It has grown into a team that runs juried competitions and public exhibitions, works with other student groups, and gives student artists real chances to show and sell their work.

02/Why it exists
Why it exists
We saw a gap in art-focused professional development at UIUC. Art students who wanted to build business, professional and entrepreneurial skills had few places to do it, and few chances to put their work in front of an audience. The organization fills that gap through events, collaborations and industry engagement.
03/Earth Day Everyday
Earth Day Everyday
Our largest project so far: a juried art competition run with students at other campuses through March and April 2026, ending in a public exhibition and awards ceremony at the Illini Union on May 3.
- Step 1
Open call
Promoted to students inside and outside existing art organizations, alongside partner campuses.
- Step 2
Jury
Recruited judges with experience in the arts and curation to score every UIUC entry against a written rubric.
- Step 3
Production
Collected permissions, produced exhibition prints, and coordinated drop-offs for physical pieces.
- Step 4
Exhibition
About 35 works by 20+ artists, including entrants from outside Illinois and abroad.
- Step 5
Awards
Category winners in 2D and 3D/multimedia, plus honorable mentions, announced at the opening.
04/Building the team
Building the team
I recruited the first officers myself, then organized the work into social media, tech and outreach sub-teams. Officers now run their own outreach, from recruiting jurors to contacting campus partners.
05/Marketing & partnerships
Marketing & partnerships
- Digital presence
- Built the website, Instagram and Discord that brought in our first members.
- On campus
- Recruited in person at Quad Day and through other student organizations.
- Student partners
- Collaborations with other UIUC organizations, including the Creative Collective.
- Institutions
- Outreach to the College of Fine & Applied Arts and Research Park to connect art students with companies.
06/Programs for artists
Programs for artists
- Exhibitions
- Public shows that give student artists a wall and an audience.
- Competitions
- Juried open calls with real judges, prints and awards.
- Artist of the Month
- A recurring feature that spotlights one student artist.
- Artist booths
- Booth sign-ups so students can sell their work directly.
07/Repositioning
Repositioning
The organization started as the Illini Art & Business Collective and is now Illini Creative Impact.
08/What I learned
What I learned
Standing at our first Quad Day booth, I noticed people weren’t stopping for the stickers. They stopped because they wanted somewhere to belong, a place to grow as artists and as professionals. That changed what I thought I was building.
